30 Day Shred - Day 1

Monday, 22 April 2013
After a blissful 2 weeks of stuffing my face with American carbs and sugar like a starved dog, it is time to realise that I am now back in England and need to stop feasting on fat.
I have decided to kick-start my turn-around with the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred.
First thing's first.

Disclaimer - I am not a nutritionist nor a personal trainer. I am using my blog to log my progress and so you guys can see how I get on and the process to get there. I do not expect anyone to copy me etc.without consulting someone first! Secondly, I am 5 ft 7 and weigh 55kg. I am not overweight. I am not doing the 30 day shred to lose weight, I'm doing it to shift an extra pound or two perhaps that I put on on holiday but mostly I am doing it to tone up. Once completed if I'm happy with the results I intend to move on to the Ripped in 30 series.

Now that that's all out of the way! A bit about the workout:
It is split into 3 levels, you do the first level for 10 days, the second for the next 10, and the 3rd for the final 10 days. It is a combination of cardio, strength training and ab workouts. You do not do the same workout for more than 2 minutes throughout, which I like because I don't get bored or end up wanting to kill myself, which is a plus. It requires some weights, I picked up some cheapo pink ones from Sports Direct because they were pretty. They cost about £6 for the pair. I personally like to work out in front of my mirror so I can see my muscles working and my flab a-jigglin and it motivates me to keep going, but each to their own!

I have taken some extremely unsexy photo's of myself and will do so every ten days and then upload them all and compare results so I can visibly see my progress. I think this helps with motivation too :)

Diet: I'm not dieting. I'm just making an active effort to be healthier in my choices. If I want chocolate, I'll eat chocolate. Just maybe half a bar instead of a whole one. Moderation, not depravation! I am also making an effort to try to drink 2 litres of water a day as it makes you feel much better apparently. I will chart what I eat here just so I know but it is definitely not a diet and nobody should copy me as to be honest, I eat like shit most of the time.

And so, without further adieu...

DAY ONE: Today I ate a slice of toast with butter, a cup of coffee, a ham salad sandwhich, a chocolate flapjack, another coffee, a banana and two fruity nut bar things my flatmate gave me. I wanted to have my low cal beef lasagne for dinner but to be honest I really am not hungry. I think because of all the water in my belly! I've drank a litre and a half and will hopefully finish the other half before bed. I can usually go a whole day without drinking anything without feeling thirsty so my body feels full and is adjusting and I'm weeing every two minutes like an excited Chihuahua.

The workout was good, I sweat a lot and my flatmate said she heard banging and moans and thought I was doing something naughty involving a man. But no, I was just giving it my all! By the time I was really getting achy and tired I only had about a minute to go so it was all fine. The only thing I really struggled with was the push ups because I have chicken-leg arms and they're scrawny and pathetic and can't lift more than a can of beans.
I hope I ache tomorrow!
