OOTD: Tough Pastels.

Wednesday, 5 March 2014
I've recently enjoyed playing with the pastel trends hitting SS14. I can't wear pale pinks because of my skin tone, so I've been wearing it through accessories. I love whites and creams to wear though, and noticed pairing the pastels with darker hues and textures like leather and leopard toughens them up a bit, hence the deep lip. This outfit I wore out to a casual dinner for a friend's birthday - Happy Birthday Jenny!

This dark lip is a combination of Mac's Rebel as a base and then darkened further with a sleek layer of Topshop's Depth on top. I tend to keep my eyes plain if I go with a statement lip. Stops me feeling like a nightwalker or a Jersey Shore extra.

My nose ring is from River Island, and my pastel pink and gold chunky chain is a cheeky Primarni bargain. All my gold studs are from Claire's. (Apparently people over 12 shop there still. Or at least, I do.)

My heels were a total bargain in the New Look sale and are perfect height for walking properly without tottering like you've crapped yourself. Ideal really.

My coat is from Miss Selfridge, my jeans are Primarni (all my jeans are, it's the only place that makes them to fit my weird body shape. I'm a 10/12 around the hips and an 8 on my calves.) The jumper is current season H&M, I've been wearing it loads. Big fan of a slouchy thin knit.

This bag is gorgeous and was actually on my recent Wishlist.  It's from River Island, and will probably be my go-to piece when trying to sneak the pastels into my outfit, or to feminise an outfit.

My outfit is finished off my an Olivia Burton watch and an old, old, OLD belt from American Eagle. I picked it up in New York years and years ago for a then-boyfriend, and dec I liked the belt more than him and kept it for myself. A decision I've never regretted - the belt has lasted a lot longer than he did.

How have you been wearing the pastel trend?
